Adelaide Hills Council wishes to advise that the following works will be undertaken within Hillside Road, Aldgate:

Works: Complete tree removal of one Fraxinus angustifolia subsp. angustifolia - Desert Ash - and one Liquidambar styraciflua – Sweetgum – will be undertaken. Following the tree removals, the stumps will be ground below surface level as a part of AHC’s programmed stump removal works.

Location: As per the below aerial map, the trees are located on the Council verge adjacent to number 13 Hillside Road Aldgate.

    Date works: Friday 1st December 2023 7:30am – 3:30pm.

Reason for tree removal: Structural defects have been identified within the primary branching structure of the Fraxinus angustifolia. Multiple branch failures have occurred to the northern side of the trees crown. Limited pruning options remain available to effectively reduce the loading forces placed upon the tree’s branching structure. The Liquidambar styraciflua has experienced multiple branch failures in the upper crown on its southwestern aspect, compromising the health, form and structure of the tree. Limited pruning options remain available to effectively manage the long-term viability of the tree.

Vehicle restrictions: To enable the trees to be removed in a safe manner, the use of an Elevated Work Platform (EWP) is required. As the EWP has a substantial footprint, closure of Hillside Road, between property numbers 11 and 15 Hillside Road will be required. Residents in the affected area will still be able to access their properties during the works but are advised that delays may occur. Throughout the duration of the works a comprehensive work zone traffic management plan will be implemented. To avoid disruption, we ask for impacted residents within Hillside Road and Wattle Street to review the location of the worksite and select the appropriate street access point.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

    Yours sincerely,

    Open Space Department (Arboriculture)

Location of works: Northern and southern sides of Woorabinda Environment Centre, eastern building which is situated to the northern side of the lake.

Reason for works: One Eucalyptus obliqua tree (Messmate Stringybark) has failed and has impacted the roof of the building to the southern side (see photo below). Complete removal utilising a crane is required to avoid damage to the roof surface. To enable maintenance and repairs to be conducted to the building, various tree clearance works will also be undertaken directly adjacent to the buildings northern side (see photo below).

These works will be undertaken over two different dates:

Date of Works: Friday 17th November 2023 Time of Works: 7:30am – 1:00pm (Vegetation clearance along northern building line)

Date of Works: Monday 20th November 2023. Time of Works: between 11:00am – 3:00pm (Failed Stringybark tree removal)

Access constraints: To enable these works to be undertaken in a safe manner, the gravel car parking area to the north eastern side of the Environment Centre will be close during the works. A pedestrian exclusion zone will also be set up around the building. Access to the remaining portions of the park will remain unchanged.

Adelaide Hills Council will be undertaking the following tree management works below:

Works required: Complete removal of two dead and one declining Cupressus torulosa (Bhutan cypress) trees.

Location of works: Southern side of Stirling Oval, trees are situated adjacent to 8 and 10 Oakbank Street.

Reason for works: Two of the three trees are dead and are not suitable for retention due to the locality. The most eastern tree displays advanced levels of decline and holds a short remaining life expectancy. The decline and death of these Cupressus trees has been attributed to a soil-borne fungal pathogen. This pathogen can transfer to other host plants through infected roots. This pathogen has been attributed to the previous historical loss of neighbouring trees that formed part of the southern Cupressus row plantings. While Council continues to review it's management approach at this site, further tree loss within this row of trees over the coming years may occur.

Date of Works: Monday 20th November 2023.

    Time of Works: 7:00am – 3:30pm

Road closure: To enable these works to be undertaken in a safe manner, pedestrian and vehicle access to the adjacent section of Oakbank Street will temporary be closed. While road closure signage will be installed at the intersections of Milan Terrance / Oakbank Street and Johnson / Oakbank Streets, access for Oakbank residents will be maintained. We ask for impacted residents within Oakbank street review the location of the worksite and select the appropriate street access point.

Due the condition of the soil at this site, no replacement tree planting works have currently been scheduled.

We apologies for any inconvenience that these works may cause and thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

If you have any questions, please contact Council on 8408 0400.

Adelaide Hills Council will be undertaking the following tree management works below:

Works required: Complete removal of one mature Eucalyptus viminalis subsp. cygnetensis tree (Rough Barked Manna Gum).

Reason for works: The tree displays advanced levels of decline and has now exceeded its useful life expectancy. The tree is not suitable for retention as a smaller specimen due to its habit and locality.

Date of Works: Thursday 26th October 2023.

    Time of Works: 7:00am – 3:30pm

Pedestrian and parking restrictions: To enable these works to be undertaken in a safe manner, pedestrian and vehicle parking access will be restricted around the works site. Throughout the duration of these works eleven car parking spaces will be closed within the eastern lower car park area (see map below). Pedestrians will be directed around the work site using temporary fencing and signage.

Library Access: Access to the Stirling Council Library building will be maintained. Please note, noise generated by these works is not anticipated impacted upon the regular library services or activities.

Adelaide Hills Council wishes to advise that the following works will be undertaken within Stonehenge Avenue, Stirling.

Works: Complete removal of three Salix babylonica – Weeping Willows – located on the eastern side of Stonehenge Avenue, south of the intersection of Madeline Road. (Please see the map on the reverse side of this letter for the precise location of the works).

Date of works: Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th August.

    Time of works 9.00am – 3.30pm.

Reason for works: Tree condition assessments undertaken by Council’s arborists have revealed significant structural defects within the primary branching structure of all three trees. The previous failure of an adjacent tree of the same species has exposed the remaining trees to increased wind loading, which has increased the probability of large diameter branch failure occurring. Remedial pruning to reduce the probability of such failures would require removal of a significant proportion of the primary branching structure of all three trees, resulting in a visually unappealing form which would detract from the character of the area and be detrimental to the health of the trees. Such pruning is not in accordance with the arboricultural industry standard followed by Council, Australian Standard AS 4373-2007 Pruning of amenity trees. In the interests of public safety, full removal of all three trees has been scheduled.

Due to the significant amenity value provided by the trees to the local streetscape, this site has been scheduled for replanting in the autumn/winter 2024 planting season with a replacement species to be determined.

Vehicle restrictions: To enable the trees to be removed in a safe manner, the use of various types of large machinery is required in the roadway. As this equipment has a substantial footprint, residents are advised that access to the roadway will be restricted during the period described above. The roadway will still be open to vehicle traffic, however residents are advised that delays may occur. Emergency vehicle access through the work site will be maintained. Throughout the duration of the works a comprehensive work zone traffic management plan will be implemented.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions, please contact Council on 8408 0400.
