    The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) is upgrading a series of bridges and culverts across regional South Australia to extend the service life of the structures and improve safety for road users.

    What to expect

    To accommodate the remaining works required on Strathalbyn Road at the Leslie Creek culvert and Aldgate Creek bridge, a portion of the work is required to be undertaken at night, including the temporary closure of Stock Road, Mylor during the night works.

    Works are scheduled to be undertaken:

    • Sunday, 2 July 2023 from 8pm until 6am Monday, 3 July 2023; and

    • Monday, 3 July 2023 from 8pm until 6am Tuesday, 4 July 2023 (weather permitting).

    This temporary road closure is to accommodate final bridge upgrade works including the new road resurfacing required ahead of project completion expected in early July 2023, weather permitting. During the temporary road closure, Stock Road will be closed in both directions between Strathalbyn Road and Aldgate Valley Road, with a traffic detour in place. Please see overleaf for details.

    Traffic controllers will be on site to direct traffic. Road users are asked to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and take extra care when workers are on site. Observe speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area.

    Day works will continue Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm and between 7am and 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays (weather permitting). Stock Road will be open during these hours with speed restrictions in place. Temporary traffic signals and speed restrictions will remain in place on Strathalbyn Road for the remainder of the project.

    Access to properties will be maintained throughout the works wherever possible, with advance notice provided if there is a need to temporarily restrict driveway access. Every effort will be made to minimise impacts to the community.

    Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to nearby residents and businesses, as much as practically possible. We appreciate your co-operation and patience while these important works are undertaken.

    The Adelaide Hills Productivity and Road Safety Package aims to upgrade some of the region’s key strategic arterial roads. The $150 million initiative, jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian government’s (80:20), includes a range of road improvements to support economic growth, improve road safety and increase fire resilience in the Adelaide Hills area.

    While the planning and design is progressing across these key road corridors, Onkaparinga Valley Road between Verdun and Woodside was identified as a location for early safety upgrades. Works on Onkaparinga Valley Road are underway.

    Works will now extend to between Tiers Road and Jacaranda Drive, Woodside and between Pugh Road and West Terrace, Balhannah. These works will include:

    • road resurfacing improving skid resistance;

    • improving and widening sealed shoulders;

    • widening seal width at bus stops to reduce through traffic crossing centreline;

    • widening of side roads to reduce drag out of loose debris; and

    • new line marking.

    Works will continue to be undertaken at night, Sunday to Friday nights, between 7pm and 6am. No works will be undertaken on Saturday night.

    These works are expected to be completed in late July 2023, weather permitting.

    To safely facilitate these works, speed and lane restrictions will be in place. Please follow the directions of on-site traffic controllers and observe traffic signage when travelling through the area. Speed restrictions of 40km/h will remain in place during the day, subject to onsite conditions. Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and take extra care when workers are on site.

    During the works, access to some side roads off Onkaparinga Valley Road may be temporarily restricted as required with local detours in place.

    Access will be maintained for emergency services vehicles and public transport at all times. Some bus stops within the project area may be temporarily impacted while works are undertaken, please observe bus stop signage and visit www.adelaidemetro.com.au for the latest information. Access to properties and businesses along Onkaparinga Valley Road will be maintained during the works wherever possible, with advance notice provided if there is a need to temporarily restrict driveway access.

    Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance as much as practically possible. You may also notice some odour which is common when asphalting works are underway.

    Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to take care when travelling through the area. For safety reasons there may be some restricted access. Where required, signage will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists to alternative routes. Every effort will be made to minimise impacts to the community.

    Start of initial activities - Crafers bound tunnel

    The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) is undertaking a major upgrade of the Heysen Tunnels to address current tunnel elements that are at the end of their service life, improve safety and provide improved traffic management and incident response capabilities.

    The upgrade will include the design and installation of new tunnel lighting, ventilation, fire suppression and Intelligent Transport Systems.

    The Australian and South Australian governments are jointly funding the Heysen Tunnels Safety Upgrade, which is expected to be completed in 2024.

    Initial activities, including additional investigation works and the start of tunnel lining repairs are planned to start from Sunday, 19 March 2023.

    To minimise the impacts to road users, the majority of works will be undertaken Sundays to Thursdays between 8pm and 6am.
