Adelaide Hills Council wishes to advise that the following works will be undertaken within Lesley Crescent, Crafers.

Works: Complete removal of one large Eucalyptus viminalis (Manna Gum tree).

Location of Works: The subject tree is situated within the Council Road verge adjacent 14 Lesley Crescent. The trees primary branching structure projects over the properties front garden, driveway and Lesley Crescent roadway / parking bays.

Date of works: Thursday 22nd to Friday 23rd August 2024.

    Time of Works: 8:00am – 4:00pm.

Reason for works: The subject tree displays multiple undesirable features within its primary branching structure. These structural concerns render the tree unsuitable for retention. No remedial management options are available. The trees primary and secondary branching structure display extensive levels of poorly occluded wounds and evidence of branch failures throughout the trees crown. Significant branch reduction pruning works were considered as a management option to both reduce loading forces placed upon the defected parts and to remediate the remaining exposed portions of crown. Due to tree species low tolerance to pruning actions, the required crown reduction works would likely initiate a spiral of decline. Such a rapid decline event would ultimately result in tree death. The tree has exceeded its useful remaining life expectancy, in which the cost of management exceeds the short-term benefits gained by retaining as a smaller specimen. The subject tree is not suitable for retention as a habitat structure in the frequently occupied location.

Vehicle restrictions / Road detour: To enable works to be conducted in a safe manner, the use of various machinery is required. This equipment will be positioned on the road surface requiring temporary modifications to traffic movements on Lesley Crecent. During the indicated time of works, closure of Lesley Crescent will be implemented adjacent number 14.

Throughout the duration of the works a comprehensive work zone traffic management plan will be implemented. Road users will be detoured around the worksite via alternate roads, please see the detour path pictured to the back of this letter.

Adelaide Hill Council will be undertaking various tree removal works within Johnston Memorial Park, Oval and Playground area Balhannah.

Works required: Complete removal of four declining or structurally compromised Fraxinus angustifolia subsp. angustifolia (Desert Ash).

Location of works: The subject trees are situated within the playground area to the southern and eastern sides of the oval.

Please see the location of trees indicated in blue within the below image.

Reason for works: These tree removals are required to mitigate the risks associated with tree part failure occurring over these recreational congregation areas. Two of the trees display advanced levels of decline and poor crown vitality. These trees hold short remaining life expectancies. Two further trees surrounding the oval perimeter contain undesirable features within their primary branching structure. The presence of these structural features render the trees unsuitable for long term retention.

Date range of Works: Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th August 2024.

Estimated days to complete works: 2 Days.

    Time of Works: 7:30am – 3:30pm.

Oval restrictions: To enable these works to be undertaken in a safe manner, the northern side of the playground will be isolated during works.

Additional Works: In the months following the completion of the tree removals, the stumps will be ground and locations replanted in winter 2025.

In conjunction with South Australian Power Networks (SAPN), Adelaide Hills Council wishes to advise that we will be undertaking the following works within the council managed road verge to the northern side of Glover Street Kersbrook.

    Required Works:

    • Removal of 14 Fraxinus subsp.angustifolia (commonly known as Desert Ash) and 1 Corymbia ficifolia (commonly known as Flowering Gum).
    • Replanting of 30 replacement trees of a species to be advised. Due to the proximity of the overhead power lines, the species are required by state government legislation to be selected from the Fire Risk Vegetation Species List (1).

    Location:

Northern verge of Glover Street (from property number 7 to the driveway entrance to Kersbrook Oval). Please refer to the aerial map for further information regarding the location of works.

    Date of works:

    • Tree removal and stump grinding works will occour between Friday 24th of May to Monday 27th May 2024.
    • Replacement planting will occour during the winter months of 2024.

    Time of works:

    7:00am – 5:00pm.

    Reason for works:

Due to the legislative requirements for clearance of vegetation around power lines in bushfire risk areas, the subject trees have been pruned to an extent that has compromised the form and sustainability of the trees. The trees are mature specimens which have exceeded their Useful Life Expectancy (ULE). These works are being implimented in accordance with Council’s long-term vision for replacement of trees with a low ULE in community areas and entrance gateways into townships.

Planting of power line friendly tree species will negate the need for regular pruning works by SAPN contractors, which will enhance the amenity value of the streetscape.

    Traffic management:

During these works sections of the roadway will be reduced to one trafficable lane. A comprehensive work zone traffic management plan will be implemented with speed restrictions and stop / go traffic commands implemented. While all attempts will be made to minimise inconvenience to road users, the traffic restrictions are required for the safety of workers on site. Vehicle access to properties in this location will be maintained.

We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and thank you for your cooperation.

For further information regarding this project please contact 0447 401 183.
