Update December 2020
Our project team has analysed all feedback received during the consultation and developed a public report which was presented at the October 2020 Council meeting. Take a look at the feedback received now.
We also want to update you on the Council decision regarding the Mylor Bike Track.
Sherry Park (adjacent to Mylor Oval) will be considered in the 2021/22 business plan for funding. This means if successful in the 2021/22 budget we will undertake specific discussions with Mylor Oval Committee and consultation with Mylor community (including riders) to develop a design prior to construction.
For now there are no immediate plans to develop a Bike Track in Mylor however we have undertaken safety works at the Aldgate Quarry Bike Trails which we understand many local rides use.
Our biodiversity field team has also levelled eight jumps in the historic BMX track in the Mylor Parklands. We will not be attempting any revegetation of this site for now, rather we will work with the Mylor Parklands Bushcare Group to manage weeds and encourage the natural regeneration of the site.
Background
We know bike riding is a much loved and very popular past time for people across a range of ages in the Adelaide Hills. And our Sport and Recreation Strategy supports ‘non-traditional’ and unstructured recreation opportunities in the region (e.g. mountain biking and BMX).
Important information
- Council has no funds allocated to a bike track
- A bike track in Mylor Parklands is prohibited
- Anyone in and around Mylor can have their say (you don't have to be a rider)
- Get in touch if you want to chat with our team about your aspirations (engage@ahc.sa.gov.au)
Asking the community about their bike riding aspirations has come about because Council want to develop a sustainable solution that is suitable for riders and protects the native vegetation in Mylor.
At the December 2019 Council meeting it was decided that bike tracks in the Mylor Parkland will be strictly prohibited to avoid further degradation to the native vegetation.
Signs have been installed in the Mylor Parklands outlining what activities can and can not be undertaken. Removing native vegetation is a criminal offence and anyone found damaging or removing vegetation may be fined.
