WHAT:

Remove two structurally defected Eucalyptus obliqua - Messmate Stringy Bark trees.

WHY:

• Tree removal of the western tree is required to reduce the likelihood of any falls over the road and power lines.
• Tree removal of the eastern tree is required to manage road safety issues.

No alternative tree management options are available to manage the associated risks posed by these trees to people and property.

WHAT DO RESIDENTS NEED TO KNOW:

• Speed restrictions including stop / go traffic commands will be in place.

As a result of the recent storm event that occurred in November, multiple mature trees within the Paracombe play space area have been extensively damaged. Council has undertaken detailed tree assessments of three Monterey cypress trees (Cupressus macrocarpa) situated to the south-western side of the play space area. As a result of these assessments, significant structural defects have been identified within two of the three trees. Due to limited pruning options being available, two of the trees require complete removal. Unfortunately, the third tree now also requires complete removal due to its reduced ability to endure high wind events as a result of the sudden loss of protection previously received from the neighbouring trees.

When will works commence and the play space re-open?

Works are scheduled to commence on Thursday 15th December and will be completed by COB Friday 16th of December. The play space will be reopened to the public upon completion of the works. Throughout the duration of the works, access to the Hall and Oval facilities will be maintained.

Why do these trees need to be removed?

These trees are significantly damaged and compromised. They pose an increased risk of falling over the play space area, where people gather and play. Council is responsible for people's safety and committed to ensuring risks associated with trees are maintained to an acceptable level.

Why can’t we just prune the trees and they will grow back?

Unfortunately, Cypress trees when pruned do not have the ability to regenerate and form new tree canopies. Without this ability, the play space will receive limited shading during summer periods. The removal and planting of new trees will enable the development of larger more sustainable trees that will provide long term benefits to the community for future generations.

What will you replant and when?

Adelaide Hills Council will work with the Paracombe Recreation Ground Committee on replanting numerous advanced trees during the winter period of 2023. Consideration will be given to the best type of tree species, including those which will provide maximum shade to play space users and also compliments and improves the amenity of the site.

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) will be upgrading the bridge over Blumberg Creek located on Torrens Valley Road (Olivedale Street), Birdwood. This work is funded by the South Australian Government as part of the Bridge Stimulus Package. Works for the project will include site establishment, vegetation management and removal, strengthening of the existing bridge and installation of new safety barriers.

To extend the service life of the structure and improve safety for all road users.

To safely facilitate these works, traffic will be reduced to a single lane with temporary traffic signals in place to control the direction of traffic. Speed restrictions will also be in place throughout the work area for the duration of the project.

Road users are asked to please plan ahead, expect delays, allow extra travel time and take extra care when workers are on site. Observe speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area.

Access for emergency service vehicles and public transport will be maintained at all times during the works.

Access to properties will be maintained throughout the works wherever possible, with advance notice provided if there is a need to temporarily restrict driveway access.

Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to take care when travelling through the area. For safety reasons there may be some restricted access. Where required, signage will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists to alternative routes. Every effort will be made to minimise impacts to the community.

• Removal of 5 dead / declining Ash street trees, as per the aerial site map (red rectangles).
• Prune to remove deadwood from one mature Eucalyptus camaldulensis – River Red Gum - street tree at the same location (blue rectangle).

FURTHER DETAILS:

• Four Ash trees will be removed within the western road verge adjacent to house number 18 William Street.
• One Ash tree will be removed within the western road verge adjacent to 8 William Street.
• Pruning of the mature River Red Gum will take place on the road verge adjacent to house number 17 William Street.
• Mechanical grinding of tree stumps and the planting of 5 new Fraxinus angustifolia ‘Raywoodii’ – Claret Ash street trees to replace the trees being removed will occur in 2023.

WHY:

• Adelaide Hills Council is committed to the staged replacement of the William Street Ash trees. The five Ash trees identified for removal display advanced stages of decline and each hold short useful life expectancies.
• Various replacement planting locations have been identified along the western verge line. The new planting locations have been selected after careful consideration of above and below ground infrastructure such as residential driveway cross overs and underground utility services.

WHAT RESIDENTS NEED TO KNOW:

• Vehicle speed restrictions will be implemented, and temporary stop/go traffic commands may be employed.
• To enable these works to be undertaken, we request residents to refrain from parking vehicles along the western side William Street adjacent to the identified trees.

A full road closure of Corkscrew Road, Montacute is required to undertake tree pruning and road surfacing works safely. The portion of Corkscrew Road closed is from Montacute Road to Gorge Road. The majority of the works will occur within the upper south-western section of Corkscrew Road.

WHEN: Monday 5th to Wednesday 7^th December 2022

8:30am – 4:00pm.

WHAT:

• Dead tree removal and pruning to remove deadwood from within trees situated within the Council road verge.
• Road surface asphalt patching works in various locations.

WHY:

• Various dead tree removals and pruning to remove deadwood is required to reduce the likelihood of tree's dropping branches over the road or on private infrastructure. This will reduce risks posed to people and property.

HOW will this impact residents and road users:

• During the works a complete road closure of Corkscrew Road from Montacute Road to Gorge Road will be implemented.
• While all attempts will be made to limit impacts to road users, this road closure is essential to enable works to be completed.
• Throughout the works access to properties within Corkscrew Road will be maintained, please be advised access delays may occur due to works being undertaken.
• Due to limited surrounding roads, no alternative road detour route can be provided.

To minimise disruption to regular road users, multi message display boards have been installed at either end of Corkscrew road to provide prior notification of the closure.

Asphalt Resurfacing Works will be undertaken on Albert Street, between Victoria Street and The Big Rocking Horse, Gumeracha

Where

On behalf of the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, Fulton Hogan will be undertaking road resurfacing works, including profiling, asphalting, line marking and associated works on Albert Street, including the junctions of Victoria Street and Randell Terrace, between Victoria Street and The Big Rocking Horse, Gumeracha.

These works are being undertaken to improve the amenity of the road for all users.

When

Works are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 8 November 2022 and are expected to be completed in mid-December 2022, weather permitting.

Typically works will be undertaken Monday to Friday, between 7am and 5pm.

No works will be undertaken on Saturday or Sunday.

What you need to know

To safely facilitate these works, speed and lane restrictions, and local detours will be in place during the day while the works are being carried out.

During the works, access to some side roads off Albert Street may be temporarily restricted, as required, with local detours in place. Please follow the directions of on-site traffic controllers and observe traffic signage when travelling through the area.

A speed restriction of 40km/h will remain in place outside of working times, subject to on site conditions. Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and take extra care when workers are on site.

Access will be maintained for emergency services vehicles and public transport at all times. Some bus stops within the project area may be temporarily impacted while works are undertaken, please observe bus stop signage and visit www.linksa.com.au for the latest information.

Access to properties will be maintained during the works wherever possible, with advance notice provided if there is a need to temporarily restrict driveway access.

Access to businesses will be maintained at all times during trading hours, please continue to support your local business.

Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance as much as practically possible. You may also notice some odour which is common when asphalting works are underway.

Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to take care when travelling through the area. For safety reasons there may be some restricted access. South Australian Regional Bridge Upgrades - Aldgate Creek bridge temporary closure and detour

Works to replace the Aldgate Creek bridge at Mylor is underway. This upgrade, being delivered by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department), will extend the life of the structure and improve safety for all road users.

When

As part of the project, a portion of the works will be undertaken at night and will require a temporary closure of the Aldgate Creek bridge on Strathalbyn Road from 8pm Sunday, 16 October 2022. The bridge will re-open 6am Monday, 17 October 2022, weather permitting.

A second bridge closure will also be required from 8pm Thursday, 20 October 2022. The bridge will again re-open 6am Friday, 21 October 2022, weather permitting.

How will this affect me:

During the temporary bridge closures, Strathalbyn Road will also be closed in both directions between Stock Road and Wilson Road. Speed restrictions and traffic detours will be in place. Please see map below for details.

Project Update

Following community feedback and further technical assessments, the approved solution is now confirmed for the Hahndorf Township Improvements and Access Upgrade Project. The project will now progress to the next phase of design. Construction is expected to commence in 2023.

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) would like to thank everyone who has provided feedback on the project and for their patience while extended investigations and assessments have occurred as part of the project planning and development process.

Key features of the approved solution

The key features of the approved solution include:

• Verdun Interchange Upgrade – the existing interchange will be upgraded to a full interchange, allowing access to and from the South Eastern Freeway in all directions.

• Mount Barker Interchange Upgrade – the existing interchange will be upgraded to include the installation of a new three lane bridge across the South Eastern Freeway for northbound traffic; the conversion of the existing bridge to accommodate three lanes of southbound traffic and a new Shared Use Path; improved ramp capacity and new traffic signals to reduce congestion and improve safety. Consultation on the Mount Barker Interchange upgrade design was completed in March 2022.

• Hahndorf Main Street Upgrade – revitalisation and improvements to Hahndorf’s main street, Mount Barker Road (the Main Street) in collaboration with Mount Barker District Council.

• Extension of Pioneer Women’s Trail – the trail will be extended between Verdun and Hahndorf which will include a bridge replacement and widening over the Onkaparinga River to accommodate the new section of the trail.

• Upgraded multi-purpose car park facility at Verdun – this upgrade will improve access to public transport.

Following community feedback and further technical assessments, the previously proposed new interchange on the South Eastern Freeway near Hahndorf has been removed from the project scope acknowledging the impacts on the surrounding heritage and environment.

Key benefits

The approved solution will deliver several benefits to Hahndorf including:

• less property acquisition and disruption to local residents, businesses and the community by using the existing infrastructure where possible;

• improved access and connectivity to the South Eastern Freeway to and from Hahndorf including removal of some traffic from the Main Street;

• improved amenity, safety and connectivity for road users, pedestrians, cyclists, visitors and local residents using the Main Street;

• preservation of Hahndorf’s heritage and character including heritage trees, buildings, and coach lighting;

• improved bushfire and emergency access by adding additional ramp access to South-Eastern Freeway at Verdun and improving access to South-Eastern Freeway at Mount Barker; and • support for local businesses and economic growth in the area.
