South Australian Regional Bridge Upgrades - Onkaparinga Valley Road, Balhannah

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) is upgrading a series of bridges and culverts across regional South Australia to extend the service life of the structures and improve safety for road users.

As part of these works, the Department will be replacing the bridge over the Onkaparinga River tributary, near Pugh Road, Onkaparinga Valley Road, Balhannah.

These works are funded by the South Australian Government as part of the Bridge Stimulus Package.

Works are scheduled to commence from Tuesday, 11 April 2023, with project completion expected in August 2023, weather permitting. Work will be undertaken between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Fridays and between 7am and 3pm on Saturdays. If night works are required, advance notice will be provided to residents in the vicinity of the works.

Works for the project will include site establishment, replacing the existing bridge with culverts, upgrading the safety barriers and vegetation management and removal where required.

What to expect

To safely undertake these works, speed and lane restrictions will be in place. Please take extra care when workers are on site. Observe speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area.

Bus stop 54 Onkaparinga Valley Road on the eastern side will be relocated approximately 80m north-east of the current bus stop. Please observe bus stop signage and visit www.adelaidemetro.com.au for the latest information.

Access to properties will be maintained throughout the works wherever possible, with advance notice provided if there is a need to temporarily restrict driveway access.

Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to take care when travelling through the area. For safety reasons there may be some restricted access. Where required, signage will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists to alternative routes. Every effort will be made to minimise impacts to the community.

Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to nearby residents and businesses, as much as practically possible.
