Road safety trial — Lobethal Road

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) has identified Lenswood Primary School for the trial of a Smart School Zone system. Through the use of technology, this trial aims to improve safety and increase driver awareness when travelling through the school zone area on Lobethal Road.

DIT will install a Smart School Zone system to complement the existing “25 When Children Present” signage by installing three pedestrian detection bollards and displaying a warning message to “Check Speed” for vehicles travelling over speed when pedestrians are detected in the school zone area.

When
Civil works Thursday 7 – Friday 8 October.
From Monday 11 October until end October, workers will undertake electrical installations and system commissioning.
Data collection will then be undertaken until mid-November

Pre and post installation traffic speed evaluations will be carried out to determine the effectiveness of the Smart School Zone system until early 2022.

Traffic flow impacts
Roads will remain open, with a 25km/h speed restriction in place while workers are on site. Lane and other speed restrictions may apply, subject to onsite conditions.

Some temporary pedestrian detours will be in place around the works site and pedestrians are advised to follow directional signage. Every effort will be made to minimise impacts to the community.

Access to properties will be maintained throughout the works wherever possible, with advance notice provided if there is a need to temporarily restrict driveway access.

For more information, phone DIT on 1300 794 880 or email DIT.CommunityRelations@sa.gov.au

These works are jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian government (80:20) through the Targeted Road Safety Works stimulus package.
