Heysen Tunnels Upgrades

A major refit and upgrade of the Heysen Tunnels will be taking place to increase safety, provide improved traffic management and incident response capabilities and replace tunnel elements at the end of their service life.

Site investigation work will begin on the South Eastern Freeway and on Mount Barker Road in the vicinity of the Heysen Tunnels from Monday, 25 July and continue until late August, weather permitting. The work will be undertaken at night between Monday and Friday, 8pm to 6am, and will help to inform project design and planning.

Speed and lane restrictions will be in place. Please plan ahead, allow extra time and take care while travelling through the area. There are no changes to public transport services. Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained at all times during these works.
