Council undertook consultation with community members within Hamilton Hill Estate regarding future verge maintenance preferences during March and April 2025.

We received 53 responses regarding potential options for the future maintenance of verges in front of residential properties. We had 24 residents wanting to maintain their own verge, 5 electing council to maintain their verge, 9 residents opted for verge parking and 16 had further queries.

Since this engagement was undertaken, council staff have been mapping feedback received from residents alongside possible verge treatments and assessing any potential sites for additional carparking. Additionally, council’s horticulture team have been implementing works to improve the condition of vegetation within the verge areas.

We are preparing a concept plan of proposed verge surface modifications and future maintenance standards that factor in the condition of vegetation onsite and community views. The intension of this plan is to achieve landscape consistency throughout the precinct that is sustainable to manage over the years ahead. This plan will be released to the community for feedback by March 2026.

We appreciate your patients while we work through this process. We are aiming to endorse an ongoing verge maintenance plan for Hamilton Hill that incorporating community feedback, by the 30 June 2026.

Council staff are also working on a Verge Maintenance Policy which will be delivered as part of the 2026/2027 financial year in line with the Annual Business Plan.
