Roadside Trading Policy Review

Adelaide Hills Council recognises and supports the practice of selling some products from public roads within the Council area, and acknowledges the need for appropriate permit procedures and guidelines for these activities to ensure public safety and fair sharing of Council’s road and other reserve spaces.

Why a review of the Roadside Trading Policy

As a result of proposed new amendments to the Local Government Act 1999, provisions in respect to Mobile Food Vendors (MFV) will be removed.

A review of Council's Roadside Trading Policy has been undertaken to ensure Council can still achieve:

  1. establishing how applications are to be assessed and permits issued for mobile food vendors.
  2. providing a permit system to guide how public road verges are to be used for business purposes.
  3. an appropriate balance between the interests of the Council, street traders, residents of the Adelaide Hills Council, and visitors to the Adelaide Hills.
  4. provision of pre-approved locations which are endorsed for mobile food vendor businesses to apply to operate from.

Pre-approved locations for mobile food vendors

The review of the pre-approved locations has resulted in a reduction of pre-approved sites from 8 sites down to 4. See our FAQ's for further information.

Therefore, the 4 sites remaining and proposed to have pre-approval include:

  1. Gilman Road Parking Bay, Oakbank
  2. Paracombe Oval, Paracombe
  3. Tregarthen Reserve, Summertown
  4. Centennial Park, Lenswood

Council would also like to understand if there are alternate locations to be considered as a “pre-approved” site and will seek input from the community about alternate locations suitable for pre-approval. Please complete the feedback form below if you have locations you would like Council to consider as part of this review.

Adelaide Hills Council is undertaking this consultation to engage the wider community, local businesses and other interested parties to ensure that the policy is able to meet the needs of the community.
