Adelaide Hills Council holds the land known as Johnston Memorial Park located at 117 Main Street, Balhannah (Onkaparinga Valley Road). The site is held under the provisions of the Trust known as 'The Johnston Memorial Park Committee Inc'. This land is described as Allotment 11 in Deposited Plan 35017 in Certificate of Title Volume 5094 Folio 759 and is addressed as 117 Main Street, Balhannah.

The land has been developed as a Memorial Park comprising of tennis and netball courts, football and cricket oval, public toilets, a playground, exercise equipment, and community-built bike track. Most recently, the inclusion of recreational vehicle (RV) parking at the park has commenced as a new/additional use.

What's Being Proposed

This site currently has a Community Land Management Plan under the classification of a General 'Multiple Use Site' in the Community Land Management Plans and Register September 2019. Council is proposing this site has its own standalone Community Land Management Plan which will provide both Council and the Community with an easily understood plan to support the sites complex land tenure.

The proposed Community Land Management Plan is envisaged to also support a future agreement with the CFS who also currently occupy a small portion of the site but which the current General Plan does not technically allow for the occupation of the site by the CFS. The proposed new plan would be updated to reflect the current and envisaged future occupation of the site, prior to entering into any new arrangements with the CFS.

The full report to council on the proposal for adoption of the new Community Land Management Plan for Johnston Memorial Park, Balhannah is accessible here, Item 12.4 page 105 of the Council report.

In accordance with Councils Public Consultation Policy, and as required by the Local Government Act 1999, Council is inviting submissions on the proposed new Community Land Management Plan from any interested persons in the community.
