What is the purpose of a Masterplan?

A Masterplan is a planning document used to broadly illustrate and articulate the overarching plan for a site. It considers all the possibilities and groups them into geographical or topic related themes. A Masterplan can then used to develop an Implementation plan, where the tasks are identified and the works can be scheduled.

Why is a Masterplan important for Lobethal Bushland Park?

A Masterplan for Lobethal Bushland Park will clearly identify the focus areas of management and development that the stakeholders wish to address and consider, over a long period of time. It puts all stakeholders on the same page and focuses their efforts.

Additionally, a Masterplan allows Council to apply for and receive funds through local, state and federal grant programs because it identifies broad strategic planning, demonstrates commitment to the park and has the backing of Community support.

What area is the Masterplan covering?

The whole site of Bushland Park will be considered in the Masterplan.

    The master plan will cover:

    • 2019 bushfire impact and acknowledgment
    • Trails and connectivity
    • Biodiversity (flora and fauna)
    • Education
    • Bushfire management
    • Aboriginal heritage
    • European heritage
    • Reservoirs
    • Park entrances, parking, access
    • Community hut use
    • Recreation leisure and play spaces

How is this Masterplan being funded?

The Masterplan project is being funded by the Adelaide Hills Council with projects identified through a future implementation process. These tasks identified through the implementation process will be funded by Council and other partners using funding opportunities (grants) where available.

Habitat restoration works currently underway is funded by the Adelaide Hills Council and a $50,000 Federal Government grant.

How is the Play Space being funded?

The Council has already allocated $150,000 toward the play space component and $150,000 has been provided by the State Emergency Relief Fund. An further $150,000 has been received through thee state/federally funded Local Economic Recovery Program.

For more information on the Play Space see Lobethal Bushland Park - Play Space page.

When can I use the new playground?

The new playground is expected to be installed in late 2021.

What are the timelines for the project?

The Masterplan aspect of the project is likely to be finalized by June 2021, and the Play Space is likely to begin construction near the end of 2021.

What is NOT in scope for this project?

The project will focus on two aspects of Lobethal Bushland Park. The first is the broad aspects of land management - We want to know how you think the park should be best used, protected and/or maintained. The project will not develop and implement the ideas generated through engagement, rather it will collate the ideas and suggestions and develop a masterplan document encompassing these ideas.

The second focus of the scope is developing a design brief for the play space. Council will be seeking the communities feedback and developing a brief that best reflects these comments. The design brief will go to market and Council will select a contractor to construct the play space.

How big will the play space be?

The play space is likely to be bigger than the Lions Park Play ground in Bridgewater (Neighborhood Level) but smaller than the Morialta Conservation Park Playground (Regional Level). The play space will include some path linkages between the spaces and other general landscaping around these spaces.

What age group is the play space going to be for?

The play space design should cater for 2 – 14 year olds.

    Will fishing be allowed?

The Masterplan Project will not alter the way the park is used in the immediate future. Fishing has been identified as a possible future permitted activity in the southern reservoir, so this topic is expected to be a task for consideration during an implementation stage where further research, information and feedback will be sought. Fishing is currently not permitted in the park.

Can I camp at Lobethal Bushland Park?

No, Lobethal Bushland Park does not currently permit camping.

Will I be able to take my dog through Lobethal Bushland Park?

Currently, dogs are permitted on lead in the southern area of the Park near the lower lake (Southern Reservoir). Dogs are not permitted in the Heritage Agreement area, which is the valuable conservation land above the southern reservoir. A task from the final version of the Masterplan may highlight that a dog management plan be developed, if so, then further consultation and consideration of this topic is likely.
