Update May 2023

The planned refurbishment of the Gumeracha Library and Service Centre commenced on Wednesday 17 May. The Civic Centre foyer space will be updated at the same time, including refreshed furniture and a new service desk for community centre volunteers.

Due to the scale of the upgrade, the library will be closed for approximately six weeks and is scheduled to reopen at the beginning of July 2023. See our website for more details.

Update November 2022

Thank you to everyone for providing your feedback on the draft plans for the Gumeracha Library upgrade. All feedback received is provided in our Community Engagement Outcomes Report.

As a result of community feedback, we have made some changes to the concept plan, including:

  • A small reduction in the size of the Children’s area
  • Grouping lounge furniture and seating near the reading table
  • Locating the youth collection together next to the Children’s collection
  • Furniture selections will take accessibility into account
  • Inclusion of some sensory toys in the children’s area

The Council documents kiosk, printing kiosk, library self-check and reservation shelf will remain in the library as important parts of our service delivery.

We are working with community groups on the relocation of heritage items to other spots within the Gumeracha complex, such as the foyer, Town Hall and History Centre.

Next Steps

We are planning to undertake the construction and upgrade works in May 2023. You may see some of our team on site, taking measurements and meeting with suppliers in the lead up to the upgrade.

The Library will be closed during the upgrade but we will continue providing Library services onboard our previous Mobile Library truck which will be parked on site for the duration.

Please contact us on 8408 0400 or via library@ahc.sa.gov.au for further information.

Our planned upgrade to the Gumeracha Library and Service Centre is aimed at making the space more welcoming and user-friendly with a refreshed service counter, shelving and furniture.

The draft plans we are sharing with you include:

  • a revamped children’s space as a key feature with cosy nooks, fun play areas and whimsical features to inspire and engage young minds
  • a large reading and/or study table that can accommodate multiple uses – such as craft or cards and board games.
  • Refreshed reading and sitting areas
  • An updated service desk with accessible options
  • New shelving for library items, including large ‘book store’ style wall shelves

Images shown are illustrative only and will be refined through the detailed design stage.

We’d love to know what you think!
