What stage are we at in the Elector Representation Review?

Adelaide Hills Council resolved at a Council meeting last night (24 October) to approve the final proposal of the future composition and structure of Council and to finalise the Representation Review Report for lodgement with the Electoral Commission.

Council's final proposal for the future composition and structure of its representation arrangements is:

  • A Mayor elected by the electors for the Council area
  • The Council elected body to comprise the Mayor and twelve ward councillors
  • The Council area divided into two wards named Valleys Ward and Ranges Ward.

The Valleys Ward will be created by merging the existing Torrens Valley and Onkaparinga Valley wards into one ward with five councillor representation. The remaining Manoah, Mt Lofty and Marble Hill wards will be amalgamated to form the Ranges Ward with seven councillors with the addition of the Basket Range, Cherryville and Carey Gully localities, which were previously divided by ward boundaries, being wholly within the proposed Ranges Ward.

A Final Representation Review Report, containing the final proposal, will be developed and lodged with the Electoral Commission for certification.

Upon certification the revised representation arrangements will come into effect for the November 2018 Local Government elections.
