November 2022 Update

The 100 year flood model for the current state of the catchment is now finalised. Council are now reviewing a planning report into the development potential within the catchment, this will assist the development of a long term planning/ future state model. This is the model that will guide prioritisation of areas for further intervention.

Council is aiming to re-engage with those who registered their interest in the new year for Stage 2 consultation/ workshops.

May 2022 Update

Council would like to thank the 77 Participants who provided feedback during the Phase 1 consultation period. This feedback is being reviewed and used to assist with calibrating flood models. Any issues raised that were local or causing significant community nuisance and required attention are being reported for action in Council's programmed maintenance activities.

The Community Engagement Outcomes Report for all Phase 1 feedback is available here.

Once modelling and flood mapping is complete which is taking longer than originally predicted we will look to prioritise issues and develop solutions. This is where we will undertake Phase 2 of the consultation and re-engage those who were interested via workshops, to explore proposed solutions further. This is expected to occur later in 2022.

Background

Council is developing a Stormwater Management Plan for Aldgate, Bridgewater, Crafers and Stirling. This plan will aim to address existing stormwater problems within these catchments. It will identify issues and opportunities in regard to flood risk, protection of water quality and opportunities for stormwater reuse.

The types of stormwater issues we want to hear about include:

  • Nuisance or minor local flooding
  • Major flooding that puts property at risk
  • Stormwater hazards that pose a risk to the safety of people
  • Watercourse health issues such as unstable banks or weed infestations.

Check out our video below to learn more about what stormwater is and what we already have in place to manage stormwater in these areas. Council is aware of many stormwater issues in these areas as shared in the video, but it will be important to hear from you to ensure we haven't missed any. The video also explains how we can work together to prioritise issues raised and consider opportunities to address them.

This approach together, will help shape the development of a draft Stormwater Management Plan for Aldgate, Bridgewater, Crafers and Stirling.

Get involved:

It's going to be important for us to hear:

  • What stormwater issues you are experiencing or are aware of and where.
  • What solutions or opportunities you think are possible to reduce the risk of the issues.
  • How issues and possible solutions could be prioritised.
  • How you feel about the draft plan once it has been developed.

Feedback will be considered in several phases throughout the year and will help inform the development of the Draft Stormwater Management Plan. Phase 1 is now starting and you can get involved using any of the tools at the bottom of this page:

  • It can be as simple as popping a pin on the map tool below at the location where you believe there is an issue and tell us a bit about it. You can also see what other people have raised as issues.
  • Provide your feedback via the feedback form with some extra questions to provide us with more details.
  • Register to be a part of our Stage 2 workshop to help us prioritise issues and solutions.
  • Or contribute to all of the above - it's up to you!
