Update September 2022
The final Adelaide Hills Council Public Art Strategy July 2022 to June 2027 was endorsed by Council on May 24 and is now available. A BIG thank you again to those who participated in a focus group, or otherwise contributed to the conversation about Public Art for the Adelaide Hills and provided invaluable feedback that helped shape this strategy.
Update June 2021
Thank you to the 35 Participants who provided their feedback online and the many community groups and other stakeholders who provided their feedback representing their communities.
Next Steps
Council will prepare a Draft Public Art Strategy taking feedback into consideration and present this to Council along with a report of the feedback received during this Consultation later in 2021.
Adelaide Hills Council recognises the important role the arts play in social, cultural and economic development and is committed to supporting the arts across the district.
Council also recognises that there is a building interest in Public Art and the value that this can add to the experience of public spaces and places. Council is currently developing a Public Art Strategy and is seeking feedback from the community to inform this strategy.
Public art is artistic expression presented in 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional form and installed in places where the public has regular access. It can be any size, permanent, temporary or ephemeral in nature.
The value and purpose of public art includes:
to beautify or enhance a public space
to influence the way people use space
to enhance the visitor experience
to tell a story, celebrate and reflect community
to acknowledge history and significance of place.
The sharing of ideas and finding out what is most important to the community in relation to public art will help inform the development of the Public Art Strategy.
