Community arts and cultural development is a community-based arts practice and can engage any art form. There are many variations of how community arts and cultural development works are made, developed and shared, and as such, there is no one model. What is at the core of this practice, however, is the collaboration between professional artists and communities to create art. (Australia Council for the Arts)
The Adelaide Hills is home to a large number of artists, writers, performers and musicians, from emerging artists to those of international acclaim.
We know that our community places a high value on Arts and Culture.
We also know that people value the opportunity to participate in creative expression in its many forms.
Council is committed to supporting opportunities for growth and innovation in this area that:
connects communities through shared experience and vision
impacts on how we use and engage with our public spaces
impacts on how we engage with each other
reflects community values, interests and history
involves all creative expression including, visual art, performance, music and writing
Council has to date supported art and cultural development in our area through a range of measures including:
participation in SA Living Artists Festival (SALA)
sponsorship of Adelaide Hills International Sculpture Symposium
providing and supporting classes and workshops through our community centres and libraries
providing access to venue space for community groups undertaking exhibitions or arts activities
celebrating local artists and writers through our community centres and libraries
Council recently employed a Community and Cultural Development Officer to further develop Arts and Cultural opportunities in The Hills.
