Consultation has concluded
Project Overview
The Aldgate Cricket Club have been driving a Building Feasibility Study to review their current built facility against the Cricket Australia Community Cricket Facility Guidelines at the Churinga Road Aldgate Oval site.
The Aldgate Cricket Club were successful in receiving grants funds through the AHC 2021/22 Community and Recreation Facility Grant program to undertake the building feasibility study at Aldgate Oval. They engaged a consultant who has been working with core stakeholders such as the Hut, ballet and table tennis groups to develop the feasibility study.
Council have provided support and guidance to the club throughout this process. At this stage there are no council funds allocated to next steps or future improvements for the project.
Some key information:
The Aldgate Cricket Club have concerns around lack of adequate facilities (particularly change rooms and toilets)
The site is classified as a ‘Neighbourhood’ site, and any developments in the future will be in line with this classification (ie. servicing the needs of the local community and sporting clubs for home and away fixtures, training activities and for participation programs).
Any proposed new facility will cater for various sport/community groups wishing to use the space
The Feasibility Study
The consultant's feasibility study is available here.
Next Steps
At this stage there are no council funds allocated to next steps or future improvements for the project. However, feasibility studies are preliminary studies undertaken in the very early stages of a project. The study is an analysis to see how feasible it is for an idea to be successful. It can help determine the possibility of overall success for a recreation site before significant investment and resources are obtained.
Using information gathered in the feasibility study, the Aldgate Cricket Club/stakeholders may choose to take a next step of developing some building and / or site designs that are appropriate for the site and all its users. However, the community will be consulted with if major infrastructure is proposed in the future.
A study like this can also assist in securing external funding for future developments at Aldgate Oval.
Council are providing a letter to adjacent residents. A copy of which is available here.
