Consultation has concluded
Trees are an important and valuable part of the Adelaide Hills landscape. They provide amenity and environmental benefits and they play an important role in maintaining a 'sense of place' for Hills townships and the countryside.
In May 2019 Council was approached by local residents about potentially replacing the Ash trees along Onkaparinga Valley Road in Charleston. Council is taking a proactive tree replacement approach across the council area and so we are keen to know what you think.
Quick project facts
Our team has commenced a tree audit to understand the condition of the Ash Trees
The Ash trees were planted by some local residents in the 1940s
This project is only focusing on the Ash trees along the main street in Charleston
Trees do not pose any risk and can be left as they are
To date tree pruning has been undertaken by SA Power Networks
A decision on whether the trees should remain or be removed has not been made
Due to the existing power lines if trees were to be replaced they would be smaller with no pruning requirements
No funding for replacement of trees has been set aside. Feedback provided as part of this consultation will inform the future plans for the trees.
We want to hear your feedback
We are engaging the local community to understand the sentiment for keeping, removing or replacing the trees along the southern and northern end of Onkaparinga Valley Road in Charleston (Refer to Document Library for Map). We want to understand what residents want to see along this section of road next (should the preference be for change).
We want to know:
What do you like about the current Ash trees along Onkaparinga Valley Road in Charleston?
Would you prefer the trees be left as they are, pruned, removed or replaced?
If you would like the trees replaced, what would you like to see in their place in the future?
Have your say on the future of the trees along the main street by completing the survey below.
No decision on whether the trees should remain or be replaced has been made. Your feedback as part of this consultation is important and will be considered as we plan for the future of the trees.
This consultation will be open until 5pm on 4 September.
Our team is here to listen to your feedback so please get in touch via engagement@ahc.sa.gov.au
