Summary

This was a particularly challenging year given the impacts that world events are having on the cost of delivering services with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) currently in excess of 8% for South Australia. Given the costs of delivering services in Local Government often exceed CPI, the focus of Draft 2023-24 LTFP was to reduce expenditure to enable the impact on rates, which are Council’s primary source of revenue, to be held below CPI in 2023-24.

As a result, Council has increased its flexibility to better absorb the financial impacts of events such as bushfires and pandemics without significantly impacting on rates and the delivery of Council’s Strategic Plan outcomes and the full range of services and activities.

The opportunity

Our Long Term Financial Plan (LTFP) has been reviewed and updated for projections in Council’s planned activities over a ten-year timeframe.

The LTFP is a financial model that aims to achieve long term financial sustainability using the key financial indicators and benchmarks for guidance, projected over 10 years using inputs from Council’s Strategic Plan, Asset Management Plan and other key Strategies. The LTFP is prepared as a part of the Strategic Management Plans as required under Section 122 of the Local Government Act 1999 (the “Act”).

Take a look at the LTFP and let us know if you think anything is missing or should change.
