Update August 2022

Many thanks to all who provided your quick responses about the large Crafers sign in June. As a result of the feedback received, and the clear majority of people who expressed support for a sign, a new sign will be installed in the coming weeks. A summary of the feedback received can be viewed here.

In terms of the design, Option A1 (single depth text, laser cut steel, rusted finish) emerged as the most preferred. We really appreciate the extra comments you made which helped us in considering details regarding the size, legibility and materials of the sign and this feedback was sent onto the manufacturer.

There were comments that the sign should remove reference to colonial history and some people stated we should acknowledge First Nations People. As a result the sign will not feature the ‘Established 1838’ and instead include ‘Kaurna Country’ in recognition of traditional owners. The decision to include the Kaurna nation respects the Native Title Determination Area which clearly delineates Crafers as being within Kaurna country (see Section 2 of the summary feedback report). If you would like to discuss Native Title designations further we welcome a discussion with Lynne Griffiths, our Community and Cultural Development Officer on 8408 0552

Thank you to everyone who has provided feedback and of course if you would like to talk about the sign or the park construction further please be in touch.

Update June 2022

Extra feedback opportunity closed 10 June.

Crafers Pocket Park works are well underway. If the weather holds up, by mid-July, the park will be open with:

  • An accessible concrete pathway
  • Picnic seating and shelter area
  • General clean-up of the vegetation
  • Fenced stormwater channel
  • New trees and shrubs of

We really appreciate the valuable contribution the community made to the Crafers Pocket Park consultation and want to check in with you on one extra design element.

A Crafers Sign for the park. Draft designs have been drawn up for a sign and we are now keen for your feedback via a quick poll survey. Can you spare a couple of minutes to let us know what you think of the sign designs?

The Crafers sign is proposed to be located in front of the park, on the curve heading to Waverly Ridge Road (see the survey for more details on the location).

The park and the new sign are funded by a Federal Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Grant which is due to run out on 30 June. This means we have only a short time to understand what you think before the order for the sign has to be placed.

Update March 2022

Council would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the 152 Participants in the community consultation on a concept plan for a small, underutilised portion of crown owned open space adjacent the Crafers main street. All feedback has been collated and reviewed and a quick overview of feedback is available in the Community Engagement Outcomes Summary. A concept design has been developed as presented below and Council will begin some preliminary weed and pruning works on site starting 16 March.

The concept design below indicates the works to be undertaken over the next couple of months. Elements highlighted in orange (signage, footpath upgrade and shelter) will be future considerations in which funding will need to be sourced.

Thanks again to everyone who participated and we will update you again as soon as we can!

In 2020 Council engaged the Crafers community, sports clubs, businesses and visitors to explore the critical issues and opportunities of the Crafers village. Feedback helped to inform and influence the creation of the Crafers Village Design Guidelines. Throughout this process the community requested better access and upgrades to public space within Crafers as a top priority in the short to medium term.

Based on the Guidelines, Council secured funding to progress design and installation of a concept plan for a small, underutilised portion of crown owned open space adjacent Crafers main street.

As a next step, we would like to hear from the local community and interested groups what would be most valued and how this space can be rejuvenated into a more functional and utilised space for locals.

Together we would like to develop a clear direction for the design to create a Pocket Park.
